Andrew Crook left the position of Membership Secretary in December 2012 if you have any questions regarding membership, email or the website then please do not contact him directly rather contact the committee through the normal channels. We hope members will avail themselves of this new service, as this provision will initially be on trial for a few months to test the demand.

You asked for it, so please try a cup or two to make the initiative a success.

The Committee has reluctantly made this decision in consultation with members who would normally attend the quiz night, because of the ENGLAND FOOTBALL MATCH against ITALY in the Quarter
Finals of the European championship. This match is on TV and is scheduled to start at 7.45pm on Sunday.

There will be overwhelming demand from many members to see this match on the ‘big screen’ and as the quiz and football are two incompatible activities the quiz has been cancelled. We hope quiz night attendees will not be too disappointed and will understand why this decision has been taken.

There will be a BBQ on Sunday commencing at 7.00pm. Come along and eat some grub before the big kick off at 7.45!

Committee

On Sunday June 3rd, the club will be open from 12:00 until 22:30 hours. As a part of the Jubilee celebrations the club will hold an ‘Open Day’ on this occasion. This will allow non-members from the village and the surrounding area to visit the club, inspect the facilities and order drinks from the bar. The club has been granted a special temporary event licence which allows the club to be opened up to the general public. The normal range of drinks will be served inside the premises, and a special Jubilee ale from the West Berkshire brewery will be served direct from the barrel outside as well. Members and other visitors will be able to take their drinks outside the premises into the street party at the front.

The club will have two tables allocated out the front for members and their visitors. It is advised that if members wish to use these they will have to bring their own seating,   picnic and also contact the club (John Young) to reserve as there will be a limited number of seats per table.

The club will also be unique in providing not one but two Jubilee celebration ales from Loose Cannon and West Berks respectively. We currently have stocks of the bottled Jubilee celebration ale from West Berks brewery. This is not only a great beer, but will probably also become a collector’s item – so order early. Our wines, including the village Jubilee labelled dry white and red wines (two of our normal wines!) can be purchased by the bottle at a slightly discounted price. Sandwiches and rolls will be available for purchase inside the club.

Photographic Exhibition

The ‘quiet’ room within the club will also be used to host a photographic exhibition organised by Hedley West, with many old photographs of Goring from the last century. Again, this will be open to all on the Sunday and we hope will attract some interest amongst the village.

We hope that you will all help to spread the word about your club to all your friends, relatives, villagers and other non-members so that Sunday June 3rd at the club becomes a day to remember.

Monday 4^th June – Opening Times

On Monday June 4th, the club will revert back to its members – only status, and will be open from 12:00 – 15:00 and from 18:30 until 23:00 hours.

Members of the committee and bar staff will be on a rota to man the doors over February to help collect outstanding membership subscriptions.  At such times members who have yet to renew will be asked to pay subscriptions on the spot.

Members who haven’t renewed by March will lapse in accordance with club rules and will have to reapply in order to use the club.

If anyone foresees a problem in renewing their membership on time please contact the club before the end of the month and we will be more than happy to try and assist with the situation.

Members not wishing to renew their membership – I would be saddened if you decide not to renew, however, would also be grateful if you could please send a letter of resignation to let us know your intentions. This also helps if you should change your mind and wish to re-join in the future.

Also please don’t forget to collect your membership card either from the door or bar a few days after payment.

Goring Social Club opening times for 2012

Instructions and the pay in box are now available in the club and will be available to the end of February. Please note renewals are officially due in January, however, you may pay in arrears during February as well. Members who haven’t renewed by March will lapse and will have to reapply in order to use the club.

Please don’t forget to collect your new cards from the bar a few days after payment.
