Goring Social Clubs annual Christmas Eve Disco, DJ with lots of the old favourites, as well as some more current tunes. The club will also have an extension till 12:00 guests and family more than welcome*

The Goring Social Club holds its annual boxing day draw (26/12/2008), raising money for the clubs charity
Helen & Douglas House that does a lot of good work with young people. The last couple of years the club has had the support of local businesses in providing prizes.

Mel’s Night Prizes

It was thoroughly enjoyable evening and prizes had been donated by Mel’s friends and family for a raffle which raised the fantastic sum of £463.40 for the charity . Mel’s family would like to thank everyone who donated prizes and participated in the evening.

Horses have been for sale over the last fortnight, those who have bought a horse will have their names and the names of their horse read out before each race. The winning owner wins prize money.

Come Saturday night when the fun really starts bet on the wining horses from several races. We run the Tote (the betting desk), and show the films. all money will be paid back to the winner ’s of the race’s.

Each film is sealed, so that nobody knows which horse will win. A film is selected at random by one of the audience /member after the betting is complete. The seal is then broken and the film projected onto the screen. That’s when the excitement really begins as members cheer on their own horse. It’s as simple as that.

The last two race of the evening the horses are auctioned off, this is where you really can win some money, if you are prepared to buy a horse.

The Goring Social Clubs entrainment committee have arrange something a little different for the club. For the first time the club is to stage an official Jazz Night! If you are a Jazz lover or haven’t even experienced a Jazz band before then why not join us on Saturday 20th of September. The band will be Christine & The Stackyard Stompers a classic New Orleans style band.

Christine & The Stackyard Stompers

Playing an exciting repertoire of 1920s classic jazz, the Stackyard Stompers hail from the Home Countries. Christine, the leader of the band on trombone and vocals, has put together a programme of authentic arrangements from jazz greats: King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Johnny Dodds, Clarence Williams, Fletcher Henderson, Fats Waller, with a little of Louis Armstrong, Jabbo Smith and even Duke Ellington. The Stompers also enjoy bringing back to life some of the more obscure bands and tunes of the period! Under the maxim “Classic jazz needn’t be boring”, the band appears at this year’s festival with a line-up including star reedman and good friend Norman Field. Whatever your tastes, the enthusiastic style of The Stackyard Stompers will captivate and entertain.

We hope that you will enjoy the evening with something a little different.

Saturday 20th of September

Brian Collyer, often found at the club entrance overlooking visitor signings, has put together a Crib Evening this Wednesday 17th of September (arrive 7:30pm, 8:00pm start) all Crib Players welcome. These evenings have so been well enjoyed in the past and continue to be a success thanks to Brian. Tables. Crib boards and cards will be provided in the tv/meeting room.
