April 2009 Ales Report

The last few weeks have been very active as we seek to get a permanent replacement for Butlers Oxfordshire bitter. Sadly, Mark Butler has stopped brewing owing to mounting costs and other economic pressures created by the current recession. We thank Mark for providing us with some excellent ale over the past few years and we wish him well in his future endeavours. It is hoped that a permanent replacement for Butlers bitter will have been identified by the end of the month.

This month’s ales include a Scottish theme with ales from the Cairngorm and Orkney breweries, and we offer some classic quaffing bitters from Adnams, Greene King and Everards. To complement these ales we will be selling 1×9 of Roosters Farmhouse ale from Knaresborough in Yorkshire and offer two patriotic Firkins from Davenports (England’s Glory) to celebrate St Georges day. We start off with York brewery’s Constantine bitter followed by Vale brewery’s Wychert ale.

These increases have been most marked for internationally branded goods whose soaring prices we can do little to influence.
