March 2009 Guest Ales

The sales of guest ales for February exceeded all expectations but might have been influenced by thirsty rugby supporters who helped us to sell 3 firkins of Butcombe bitter within a week and two firkins of Sharps Doombar in five days. Very good going I think! For March we have some good beers on order but I sense we may have to go back to our suppliers for more if current drinking habits continue!
The beers for March are as follows:-
Fullers Chiswick bitter (3.5)

Available in early March, this light, refreshing beer delivers a wealth of flavours and has a wonderfully distinctive hoppy aroma. Its immediately pleasing maltiness is balanced by a lasting bitterness in the mouth. We may order more for the middle of the month if this first firkin goes quickly.
Exmoor Ales Hound Dog (4.0)

An old favourite, this light refreshing beer has a golden brown hue. The hoppy nose and malty finish are complemented with a touch of toffee and vanilla and a long Exmoor aftertaste.
St. Austell Tinners (3.7)

A traditional Cornish ale brewed using only spring water with the finest malts and choicest hops. Tinners has a light and refreshing flavour with a subtle hint of bitterness. Enjoy!
Thwaites Original (3.6)

Another old favourite, this is a clean , dry tasting and refreshing bitter of glowing amber appearance with a malty nutty flavour. The ale yields a hoppy aroma and a lingering bitter finish.
Cairngorm Trade Winds (4.3)

This excellent ale from Scotland should be available from March 13th. A light golden beer with wheat, which gives a clean fresh taste. The mash blends with the Perle hops and elderflower to provide fruit and citrus flavours. Only one firkin ordered so enjoy while it lasts.
Isle of Purbeck Brewery best bitter (3.6)
From Studland in Dorset, this classic deep amber best bitter of moderate strength, has an inviting hop fragrance and a clean bitterness to finish.
Nethergate Brewery IPA (3.5)

A classic copper-coloured IPA from a highly rated brewery.
Hydes 1863 Classic Bitter (3.5)

A traditional ale with a distinctive flavour derived from premium pale ale malt and whole English hops, deliciously dry hopped with Fuggles. 1863 drinks a little lighter and is a superb session beer. One firkin available.
Brains of Cardiff Bread of Heaven (4.0)

A great favourite with members, this traditional cask ale has a distinctive reddish hue and a rich hop aroma, finely balanced by a moreish fruit finish. Enjoy.
This list may be subject to change and/or additions according to the speed at which the ale is consumed! Don’t forget that we still serve our permanent regular and favourite ales – Butlers Oxfordshire Bitter (3.6) and Wadworth 6X (4.3). These are always served in excellent condition so make sure to continue to down these as well!
A reminder that we are holding a Belgian beer tasting session in the Club on Thursday March 19th. Cost £7.50. See the notice boards in the Club for further details. Should be an excellent night and thanks in advance to Ian King for organising it.
