New roof for Goring Social Club

Members attending the Club in the second half of October through early November will have been concerned that there was no space for car parking outside the Club. Instead the perimeter of the Club was surrounded by scaffolding suggesting serious building works were underway.
Serious indeed, as the Management Committee has recognised that it is high time that the roof covering the older part of the Club be replaced. Early signs of leakages prompted the Committee to take quick action and have the roof, which we believe is the original roof dating back to the 1880s, replaced.
All the roof tiles of the original building have been replaced and we have taken the opportunity to have modern insulation installed which we hope may reduce our spiralling fuel bills. In addition, new black pvc. soffits, barge boards and guttering have been installed which will limit the amount of maintenance necessary in the future. We have also taken the opportunity to replace the flat roof facing the patio area. By the time you read this report the work should be completed. Let’s hope it lasts for another 120 years!!
